MAY 8, 2026 SAFETY ALERT

麻豆社 Safety Advisory

5/8/2026

To the 麻豆社 campus community,

In the afternoon of May 7-8, the University Police received reports of multiple stolen e-scooters. The first scooter was taken from outside of Science 1 and has since been located. The second scooter was taken from the Hinman Dining Center and has not yet been located.

The University Police have not yet identified a person of interest in connection with these thefts, and no suspect has been apprehended at this time.

The University Police are actively investigating this incident and encourage anyone with information to contact them at 607-777-2393. Information can also be reported anonymously through the University Police website at: /police/anonymous-tips.html

In light of this incident, the University Police would like to provide the following tips to help keep you and your property safe:

  1. Remove the battery when possible: If your e-scooter has a removable battery, take it with you whenever you leave the scooter unattended. This not only helps deter theft but also prevents battery tampering or misuse.
  2. Use a high-quality lock: Always secure your e-scooter with a sturdy, high-quality bike lock. While no lock is completely theft-proof, inexpensive or lightweight locks can be defeated quickly with minimal tools. Invest in a heavy-duty U-lock or chain lock for better protection.
