Arts Research Assistant
Description:
Against Detection is a research project studying how people and computer vision systems differ in the way they interpret images. It has three parts: recorded interviews in which participants describe artworks from the University Art Museum, a colour-perception study using specially made prints, and work developing images designed to trick or evade computer vision systems.
The research assistant will help run participant sessions, record and transcribe responses, organise and code data, and assist with the computer-vision side of the project. Completion of CITI human-subjects training and addition to the study's IRB protocol are required before working with participants.
Indicate any special skills, training, and/or prerequisite coursework required or preferred.
Required: completion of CITI human-subjects research training before any participant contact (this can be completed after hiring). Careful, reliable, and confidential handling of research data.
Preferred: some familiarity with one or more of the following, though none is essential and training will be provided: audio transcription; basic programming or scripting (for example Python) for the data-comparison work; image editing or file management; coursework or interest in art, art history, visual studies, psychology, or computer science.
We welcome applicants from across disciplines. The role suits someone organised, attentive to detail, and comfortable working across both studio/humanities and technical sides of a project.
