Â鶹Éç Projects for New Undergraduate Researchers

Â鶹Éç Projects for New Undergraduate Researchers

The Â鶹Éç Projects for New Undergraduate Researchers (BUPNUR) program launched in Spring and Summer 2024 and is being offered again in Spring and Summer 2026. The program helps students without prior research experience participate in faculty-mentored research projects, with an emphasis on lowering the barriers for all Binghamton students to access research opportunities. Spring 2026 stipends will be approximately $1,250, depending on demand and the number of positions funded. This is for a 4–6-hour weekly time commitment. Summer full-time opportunities include stipends of $5,000. Stipends are made in two payments over the course of the semester, pending a successful mid-term evaluation. Projects range across disciplines.

Eligibility

Eligible undergraduate students include those who:

  • Have not had an undergraduate research experience at Â鶹Éç;
  • Did research in high school but not at Â鶹Éç;
  • Have not had a BUPNUR award in the past.

Ineligible undergraduate students include those who:

  • Participated in FRI or the Source Project;
  • Have worked in a lab or with a faculty member on their research project or are currently doing so;
  • Have been involved in a research project with a faculty member that is either paid, volunteer, or for academic credit.
